Meritor WABCO Reverse Detection Module Now Available through Trailer OEMs LOUISVILLE, Ky. (March 19, 2003)
Meritor WABCO Vehicle Control Systems has announced its new Reverse Detection Module (RDM). Designed to interface with standard trailer power harness connections, the unit provides fleets the protection they need from unwanted mishaps. The new back-up detection system is available immediately through all North American trailer OEMs for new installations and aftermarket distributors for retrofitting.
The module detects vehicle direction utilizing a Hall-effect sensor(1) mounted
at the wheel end. The sensor output can be utilized to activate the following functions: audible alarm, back-up lights, lift axle or lock-out steer axle solenoid.
This allows the system to be tailored to meet specific fleet needs.
Dennis Sandberg, president of Meritor WABCO Vehicle Control Systems, said, “Our new Reverse Detection Module is a practical solution to helping keep trailers as productive as possible. And, with the high expectations placed on today’s vehicles, fleets need a system they can feel confident in.”
An industry-standard power connector is utilized with the system; the same
proven output connectors used with Meritor WABCO speed and pressure sensors are employed as well. The unit is factory-sealed to protect sensitive wiring from the environment and road debris.
Sandberg added, “One of our key goals in new product development is to help fleets keep their operating costs in line. The back-up detection system helps accomplish this by keeping fleets’ trailers on the road, protecting this significant investment.”
The Reverse Detection Module is just one element offered by Meritor WABCO and ArvinMeritor as part of their complete braking system. Other braking system components include: anti-lock braking system, electronic braking systems, stability control systems, air dryers, brake control valves, air compressors, foundation brakes, automatic slack adjusters, friction materials, and hubs and drums.
