Meritor WABCO Introduces New Data Extraction Device to Provide More Practical Trailer Data Retrieval LOUISVILLE, Ky. (March 19, 2002)

Meritor WABCO Vehicle Control Systems has announced its new PLC DataMaster™ Data Extraction Device. Designed for medium to large fleets, the unit provides a convenient and accurate resource to retrieve critical trailer information. The new device has been designed and developed for Meritor WABCO by Pacific Insight Electronics Corporation, who is the exclusive distributor for this product.

Compatible with the company’s Enhanced Easy-Stop™ trailer anti-lock braking system (ABS), the device utilizes power line carrier (PLC) communications to electronically communicate back to the system. A sophisticated memory structure allows the unit to extract readings from up to 500 trailers. This not only streamlines the retrieval process, it reduces the amount of paperworktypically required by conventional paper-based trailer data retrieval systems.

Dennis Sandberg, president of Meritor WABCO Vehicle Control Systems, said, “The introduction of the DataMaster is one more way we’re helping fleets keep their cost of operation under control. The unit requires less time for data retrieval than traditional methods and creates less paperwork in the process.”

The self-contained, hand-held device quickly connects to a parked trailer’s J560 seven-way connector, eliminating the need for cumbersome laptop PC/interface connections.

With a few simple keypad commands, the 20-character display shows vital trailer statistics related to ABS status codes, trailer identification and odometer
readings.

The construction of the DataMaster includes an injection-molded housing to withstand the rigors of daily use. A smart, rechargeable battery system for maximum uptime is standard with the unit.

DataMaster is just one element offered by Meritor WABCO and ArvinMeritor as part of their complete braking system. Other braking system components include: anti-lock braking system, electronic braking systems, stability control systems, air dryers, brake control valves, air compressors, foundation brakes, automatic slack adjusters, friction materials, and hubs and drums.
